Rotations

Third Year Rotations

We are a host institution for third year medical students rotating from Western University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific (COMP). Interested students apply through COMP. For these students, we provide a team-based, collaborative environment to learn clinical medicine, attend didactics, and participate in research, student well-being initiatives, and mentorship. At this time, we are not accepting 3rd year student elective rotations from institutions other than COMP.

Fourth Year Audition Rotations

Fourth year medical students wishing to apply for audition rotations at Community Memorial should complete their applications via the Visiting Students Learning Opportunities (VSLO, sometimes referred to as VSAS) site. We begin accepting applications for audition rotations in the third week of January of the prior academic year. Please allow four to six weeks to process the application. Rotations will be scheduled starting in early March. We will accept students from both osteopathic and allopathic schools for audition rotations in Family Medicine, General Surgery, Internal Medicine, Orthopedic Surgery, and Psychiatry. Listed below are the available audition rotations for the upcoming academic year.

Family Medicine: July to December
General Surgery: Mid-July to December

We look forward to reviewing your application.

Elective Rotations

Due to limited capacity, we rarely accept students for elective rotations. Interested students may email our Residency Program Coordinator, Jackie Aldrete, who will review requests on a case-by-case basis. Accepted students rotate during the second half of the academic year, January – June.

Shadowing

Students wishing to shadow in our Graduate Medical Education program must meet eligibility criteria listed on the application and arrange for their own attending physician sponsor on the Community Memorial Medical Staff prior to submitting an application. Once they have a sponsor, students must submit an application to our Residency Program Coordinator and have their shadowing request approved by the Department Director, Clinical Coordinator, or sponsoring physician. After having their application approved, students must complete all human resources screening requirements prior to the start of the experience. The application process takes approximately one month.
