Paul Zimmer, DO

About

Home Town: Minocqua, Wisconsin

Undergrad: University of Wisconsin Oshkosh in Oshkosh, Wisconsin

Life Before Medical School: Growing up in the woods of Northern Wisconsin, I spent much of my time enjoying everything the outdoors from hiking and water sports to hunting and fishing. After undergrad, I spent time preparing for medical school working as a scribe in an emergency department in central Wisconsin which was one of the best decisions I made as it made for an easy transition to medical school and helped solidify my choice to pursue a career in medicine.

Medical School: Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Indianapolis, Indiana

Why Ventura? I have several family members that live in the Bay area and always enjoyed visiting California when I was younger. However, my decision to come to Ventura was made after hearing about the area from my girlfriend who grew up in Ventura County and had nothing but good things to say about it. Additionally, having come from a developing medical school, the decision to come to a fledgling psychiatry residency was enticing as new programs provide the opportunity to be a trailblazer and craft a program that meets your requirements and that will serve future classes of residents.

Next Adventure: Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship likely on the East Coast

Medical Interests: Autism, Behavioral Neurology and Neuropsychiatry, ADHD, TAY populations, Prodromal Psychosis and early intervention
