Resident Application Process

All fourth-year medical students applying for residencies will apply through the ERAS program and participate in the NRMP match.

Applications open for program review via ERAS yearly on September 15 for all applicants. Please submit your application for consideration for the following contract year as soon as possible after application opening dates. Applicants are selected for an interview based on academic performance and personal qualifications regardless of race, gender, color, sexual orientation, religion, or national origin. Successful applicants will be invited to interview. Interviews are held from mid-October through mid-January. Due to the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency, interviews will be conducted remotely using virtual meeting technology. Additional details will be sent to applicants invited to interview.

CMH offers residency programs in Family Medicine, General Surgery, Internal Medicine, Orthopaedic Surgery, and Psychiatry.

  • Is CMH dual-accredited?

Yes. CMH has achieved dual-accreditation (AOA and ACGME) for all of our residency programs.

  • How many residents did each program accept for the 2020-2021 academic year?

Family Medicine accepted 6 residents, Internal Medicine accepted 8 residents, Orthopedic Surgery accepted 4 residents, General Surgery accepted 3 residents and Psychiatry accepted 4 residents.

  • Does CMH follow the NRMP for “all in” policy?

  • What is the deadline for residency application submission?

Please submit your application as soon as possible for the following contract year. Applications will be reviewed on a first come first serve basis beginning September 15.  Applicants will be notified in due course if they are invited to interview.

  • When will the interviews be held?

Typically, interviews are held from mid-October through mid-January. Due to the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency, all interviews will be done remotely using virtual meeting technology.

  • Does CMH sponsor visas?

No, CMH does not sponsor visas.

  • Does CMH accept applications from foreign medical school graduates?

CMH considers all qualified applicants.

  • Are audition rotations required to be considered for an interview?

Audition rotations are encouraged, but not required to be considered for an interview.

  • What are the minimum COMLEX/USMLE scores for consideration into the residency programs?

Minimum COMLEX/USMLE scores vary by specialty and may change year to year.  Please contact the corresponding GME coordinator to obtain current minimum score requirements.

  • Do I need to have a California training license prior to starting my residency?

Yes.  Effective January 1, 2020, the State of California requires first year residents to apply and obtain a California training license prior to starting their residency.
