Brian Utz, DO
Program Director
Dr. Brian Utz is the Program Director of the Family Medicine Residency
at Community Memorial Healthcare. He completed his undergraduate studies
at the University of South Florida, where he majored in biomedical science.
He graduated from medical school at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine
in Bradenton Florida. He completed his residency at Community Memorial
Healthcare in Ventura before joining faculty in 2018, teaching inpatient
medicine as well as community medicine. He has served as Program Director
for Family Medicine since 2021. Dr. Utz is dedicated to serving on international
missions as well as caring for the underserved at home. He has been on
numerous medical mission trips to date and plans for many more. In his
free time, he likes to cook, travel, and spend time outdoors.
Allan Wagner, DO
Associate Program Director
Dr. Allan Wagner is the Associate Program Director of the Family Medicine Residency at Community Memorial Healthcare. He was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio. Growing up, his involvement in sports sparked an interest in health and nutrition, and he went on to receive his B.S. in Human Nutrition from The Ohio State University. He received his doctorate in Osteopathic Medicine from Midwestern University (AZCOM) and completed his residency in Family Medicine at Community Memorial Healthcare. His medical interests include preventative care, urgent care, and hospital medicine. In his free time, he enjoys cooking, traveling, watching sports and spending time with his wife, daughter, and two dogs.
Simon Akl, DO
Director of Osteopathic Education, Core Faculty
Dr. Simon Akl is the Director of Osteopathic Education of the Family Medicine
Residency at Community Memorial Healthcare. He was raised in Los Angeles,
California, in a Lebanese family, which influenced him to attend a full
immersion French American school through high school. He learned both
French and Arabic. He was accepted to California State University Fullerton
as a President’s Scholar graduating with a B.S. in Health Sciences
and a double minor in kinesiology and French. He then went on to attend
medical school at Western University of Health Sciences, where he quickly
discovered his passion for teaching. He served as a Pre-Doctoral Teaching
Fellow in Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine. Dr. Akl developed an interest
in family medicine with a focus on continuity of care while emphasizing
the importance of lifestyle choices, such as diet and exercise. He completed
his Family Medicine Residency training at Community Memorial Healthcare
and stayed to serve as teaching faculty both in the inpatient setting
with Pacific Inpatient Physicians as well as in the outpatient setting
in the Academic Medicine Clinic. He also serves as Director of Osteopathic
Education overseeing Family Medicine residents participating in the Osteopathic
Recognition program. He values the opportunity to care for and oversee
patients on their walk from birth through life, hopefully helping them
to age gracefully. During his free time, he enjoys spending time with
his family, participating in church activities, traveling, and playing sports.
Khozema Campwala, MD
Core Faculty
Dr. Khozema Campwala completed his medical training at St. George’s
University School of Medicine, Grenada and residency at Akron General
Medical Center, OH and Wheeling Hospital, WV. Following graduation, he
moved to Ventura and has been practicing Family Practice, Obstetrics,
and Urgent Care at Community Memorial Healthcare. He is board certified
by the American Board of Family Physicians and a Fellow of the American
Academy of Family Practice. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor at Western
University of Health Sciences and served as Associate Program Director
for the Family Medicine Residency Program at Community Memorial Healthcare.
He currently serves as core faculty.
Michelle Daucett, DO
Core Faculty
Dr. Michelle Daucett received her Bachelor of Science from University of Oregon and her Doctorate in Osteopathic Medicine from Western University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific. She completed a rotating internship at OSU Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma before going on active duty in the U.S. Air Force. After completing Emergency Medicine and Flight Medicine training, she served at the USAF Hospital at Tinker AFB, Oklahoma City. She is board certified by the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians. She returned home to Ventura County in 1995 and spent the next 20 years practicing family and emergency medicine, serving as Medical Director for the Santa Paula Hospital Emergency Department from 2006-2015 before joining the Community Memorial Healthcare Graduate Medical Education team in the inaugural year as Program Director. She currently serves as core faculty and precepts residents and students at the Academic Medicine Clinic.
Kristin Peña, MD
Core Faculty
Dr. Kristin Peña is dedicated to teaching and practicing Family
Medicine and treating the whole person. She has a special interest in
chronic conditions such as diabetes and hypertension, non-obstetric women's
health including menopause management and osteoporosis and general preventive
medicine. She is certified in Medication Assisted Treatment of opioid
use disorder and treats chronic Hepatitis C. She volunteers regularly
at the Westminster Clinic and runs the Ventura Women Physician Network.
When not working, she enjoys reading, crafting, traveling with her husband
and daughter, and playing tennis.
